Let's Age Like a Fine Wine
Wine happens to be my drink-of-choice, and it also happens to be my favorite metaphor for aging ā let us all age like a fine wineā¦
As clichĆ© as it is, this has always been the perfect metaphor for how Iāve envisioned my life. Iām a very future-focused thinker, so aging was never really one of those things that scared me. In fact, Iāve always wanted to be older. I thought that would eventually level out at some point, but Iām still hanging on strong.
Some of my favorite influencers are women in their 40s, 50s, and so on (Melissa Wood-Tepperberg, Mel Robbins, Emma Grede, Jen Atkin to name a few) who emulate the balance of embodying all aspects of the life that they desire. Still career-driven, family-oriented, and embracing all the things they love tenfold. All while caring so much less about what they donāt love.
They are my inspiration to keep all my hopes and dreams alive, without a cap, for the next several decades of my life.
Iāve never really understood the plateau rhetoric that people feel as they get to their 30s. I can see why societally or biologically that occurs, but, genuinely, since I was little I always thought it was so cool to get older. And I still feel that way.
Even when I chose to come to Australia, and now Bali, I wonāt lie, I did think to myself, āif not now, then when?ā but at the same time, I know this wonāt be my only time in this area of the world by any stretch. I love to travel and will make it a priority of mine to make that happen as I get older.
Honestly, I believe that becomes only more possible as I get older. Not the other way around.
Point blank: our 20s suck a lot of the time. They have their fun moments, but they are the time in our lives we are figuring it out. I can already tell as I explore my late twenties that I have a sense of the fresh air that awaits me. The women in their 30s+ who start giving less of a crap and expose that⦠I feel that coming.
Whether this is the truth here or not, sometimes things are true simply because we believe them. I hope to give you an ounce of perspective that no matter how old you are reading this, you have SO MUCH TIME ahead of you.
Maybe thatās easier said than done, but if youāre rolling your eyes reading this advice because you are older than I am, I hope you still consider the fact that you know deep down you want to believe this is true too. And I know that I can sit here confidentially to tell you that it can be, even if you donāt believe me just yet. Because, again, our reality is shaped from what we believe a lot of the time (if not all the time).
And if you need some extra convincing, follow Gary Vaynerchuk on social media⦠he will give you an ear full. Trust me.
